Is your house making you sick? These 5 tips can help.


Tip #1: Replace Your HVAC Filters


Even if you haven’t used your system recently, it’s a good idea to check the filters every month for dust and dirt. We advise that you regularly replace the old filters in your HVAC system at least once every 3 months.


Tip #2: Remove Debris from Your Sump Pump


Check your sump pump once a month and remove any accumulated debris so the system can do its job properly.

*Bonus: It is easy to test your sump pump by pouring water over it and making sure it drains quickly.


Tip #3: Seal Doors and Windows


The weather can take a toll on many parts of your home, including the seals around your door and windows. Having spaces in these seals can lead to higher heating and cooling costs. Sealant or caulk can fix this problem relatively quickly and won’t break the bank.


Tip #4: Be on the look-out for Mold


If you see any indication of mold- typically greenish or black spotted patterns- found on damp walls, floorboards (concrete and drywall), basements, bathrooms, ceilings, etc.- you should address it right away. There are different varieties of household mold, some more dangerous than others. There are mold test kits available in stores, however, remediation might be best left to the professionals. Here are some common symptoms that you may experience do to the presence of mold spores in your home: Coughing, Sneezing, Sore/Itchy throat, Congestion, Runny nose, Sinus headaches, Wheezing, Difficulty breathing, Itchy/Watery eyes, Irritated/Itchy skin. Please consult a medical professional if you experience these symptoms to rule out other potential health issues.

Tip #5: Pests can be a really big Pain.


Household pests can be much more than a nuisance. In Middlesex county, NJ the top pests include: Termites, Fleas, Ticks, Silverfish, Cockroaches, Bed Bugs, Bees, Ants, Squirrels, Mice & Rats.

-Did you know that one mouse can contaminate ten times more food than it eats? Gross!

Keep an eye out for any warning signs you may have an infestation. A good rule of thumb is if you see 1 there are likely more, we advise you have your property inspected and treated as soon as possible. These unwelcome guests can become a threat to your property and potentially your health (Ex. Ticks linked to Lyme disease- Symptoms may include: Pain in the joints or muscles, headache, fatigue, fever, or malaise, stiffness or swelling in the joints and bull's-eye pattern rash).
